Skirting boards: your house is full of them, but do you ever clean them? A plinth really completes a room. But because they are so low to the floor, they also catch a lot of dust and dirt. And for one reason or another, cleaning sometimes falls short. That's why I have some handy tips for you to clean these skirting boards properly!
Tip 1: Prevent a thorough cleaning by regularly wiping the skirting boards. Prevention is always better than cure, even when it comes to cleaning. Because the less dust and dirt collects, the more beautiful your skirting boards will remain. Use a feather duster with a long handle to reach all corners.
Tip 2: Take the baseboards with you when vacuuming. Almost all vacuum cleaners nowadays have an attachment with a brush head, perfect for cleaning the baseboards without damaging them.
Tip 3: For a thorough cleaning, a nice soapy water with a little washing-up liquid is sufficient. Dip a sponge in the soapy water, squeeze it almost all the way out and clean the baseboards. Then take a cloth and clean water to remove the soapy water. Then wipe the skirting boards with a dry cloth to remove all moisture.
Tip 4: For stubborn stains, make a mix of 1 cup of white vinegar and 5 cups of warm water. Dip a cloth or sponge in this and wring it out well before ironing over the stain. The acid loosens the dirt, making it easier to remove with the detergent solution. Just go over it with clean water and your skirting board will be radiantly clean again.
